Playbag – Tantus Dragon Tail Review

When impact play is concerned, people often fall into a category of liking either stingy or thuddy sensations. In fact, it’s almost a guarantee that a request for one of these sensations will come up at some point in a scene negotiation. But what if there was a toy which could offer each of these sensations? Enter the Tantus Dragon Tail, which promises to deliver a combo of thuddy and stingy strikes while also being capable of serving as an insertable toy. Promises are one thing, but does the Tantus Dragon Tail actually deliver? The short answer is yes, the Dragon Tail does deliver, but not quite in the way one would expect.

Tantus Dragon Tail

My first impression when Ms.Pomegranate handed me the Dragon Tail was, “it’s really short”. That’s because I had an image of a traditional Dragon Tail in my head, which is typically a leather toy that often ranges from 3 to 5 feet in length. The total length of the toy comes in at 16”, with approximately 7” being the striking surface, the rest of the length being the handle.

The shape of the striking surface is a thick triangle base  that progressively gets thinner until it terminates at the point. The tip is intended to deliver stingy sensations, the thicker base is made for thuddy strikes. Because the toy is short, all of the striking surfaces are subsequently short. This makes it impossible to deliver a purely thuddy or stingy strike. Rather, what you get is a strike that provides a combo sensation, relative to what part of the toy makes contact and where you hold the handle.

Striking a bottom solely with the tip of the toy will produce a quick and pronounced sting. The further down in the striking area you move, the more thud is added to the strike. Now, thud and sting is relative when talking about this toy. The toy isn’t heavy by any means, so any thud that one produces is going to be relative at best. In fact, it’s almost a given that a hit from the thuddy part of the Dragon Tail will provide a bit of sting as the thin tip follows through to complete the strike. I’d almost compare the sensation produced by the toy as a hybrid, more akin to the sensation of a cane or a paddle.

The Tantus Dragon Tail is made from high grade silicone, which means it flexes and has an efficient recoil action. It’s relatively easy to get a slapping/whipping motion going while using the toy. As I mentioned, where you hold the Dragon Tail affects the sensation you’re able to give. Holding the toy at the bottom of the base allows one to produce the aforementioned, stingy whip. Grasping the entirety of the handle allows one to generate more power, creating a slapping, thuddy sensation.

The Dragon Tail is excellent for detailed, close up impact scenes which are directed at localized parts of the body, such as the chest and genitals. The toy is also good for close contact impact play like over the knee spankings, which isn’t a surprise since I compared it to traditional spanking implements.

The other advertised use for the Dragon Tail is serving as an insertable toy. The part which is inserted is the handle. There is a small bulb at the end of the handle, which actually reminds me of the bulbs on the end of anal hooks, albeit in silicone. The size of the bulb is comparable to the width of a finger or slightly larger, meaning that the toy would be suitable for beginner to intermediate anal play without being too severe.

One minor point, I didn’t like the hole that’s in the bulb on the Dragon Tail handle. I’d recommend that anyone using the toy cover it with a body safe condom, if the hole is an issue, or if it’s a choice of personal preference. It’s not necessary, but be aware that the open section will require a user to be more fastidious when cleaning the toy after the scene. As with all insertables, use a quality, body safe lube. If you’re considering using the toy for anal and impact play, consider the flow of your scene, such as impact first then insertion (lube covered handles and impact play don’t mix). Or stick with one intended purpose when using the toy. Since the Dragon Tail is 100% silicone, there are a variety of methods, including boiling, available to ensure that the toy can be thoroughly cleaned after a scene.

The Tantus Dragon Tail is a great hybrid toy that adds a unique array of sensations to a variety of impact play scenarios. It’s not a replacement for a full leather dragontail or thick thuddy toys, nor was it intended to be. The Dragon Tail is a easy to use for a beginning player, yet has enough versatility for more experienced players. The toy is wicked for intimate pleasures like impact on sensitive, bits that require precise attention. The body safe silicone construction, size and shape make add to the versatility of the product when used as an insertable.

With its functionality and versatility, I’d recommend adding the Tantus Dragon Tail to your toybag. However you decide to train your dragon, always keep it kinky.
