Playbag – Bondage Tape

When we talk about bondage implements, tape almost always gets brought up. There are lots of reasons why – it’s cheap, easily accessible, requires no real tying skill, strong, and doesn’t leave marks. However, if you have used tape – masking tape, bandage wrap, or the like – you already know one big drawback. It sticks to everything and leaves a residue. Plus, that residue can irritate the skin. That’s why we don’t recommend you use just regular tape, but we DO recommend bondage tape.

Bondage tape doesn’t have adhesive, it’s a tape made of PVC (polymer of vinyl chloride), it only sticks to itself. You can find it in a fetish shop, or even Amazon, and it is sold in 50 ft rolls of various colors. Think of bondage tape as rope play without the rope. As always, there is a caveat, don’t suspend anyone with this tape. Other than that, you can do a LOT with it. It should be disposed of after one use, making it safe in this era of uber vigilance against germs.

Before we give you some super sexy ideas of how to use this tape, let’s go over some safety considerations.

If using as a gag, check regularly for breathing comfort and have a signal as a safeword.

This tape doesn’t “breathe” so it’s hot, consider that when taping someone in the sun, or for long periods of time.

Don’t reuse it. Some teachers recommend doing so, (and I almost never say this) but ignore that. Don’t reuse it.

Have safety scissors on hand. Cut off the tape at any sign of distress or circulation problems, tape is cheap, and you can re-tape if everything is fine. Don’t harm your scene partner

This tape can be stretchy, so consider that when tugging or pulling at it. Like any tape, as you pull at it, it gets thinner as it curls into itself, make sure you don’t turn it into a tourniquet.

It can be slippery, especially with lube, do not rely on holding the tape (that’s on your partner) to hold your partner safely

That’s it. Not too hard, and most is common sense. Now how about some sexy ways to use it?

Bondage is always the first thing that comes to mind. Have your partner sit with their knees bent near their chest and run the tape around their thighs and shins, binding the legs in the bent position. Again, be cognizant of circulation issues, but this is a good hobbler.

You can wrap it around the head as a gag or blindfold – but never wrap the head completely with anything, this is very dangerous and cause asphyxiation.

How about a hobble skirt? Here’s a great tutorial on how to do that with bondage tape.

Want to restrain someone on a chair or a bed but don’t have expensive restraints. Yep, you guessed it, tape. Or maybe you just want to restrain ankles and wrists, this tape is perfect for that.

Honestly at this point, I should be Billy Mays with the “IS THERE ANYTHING THIS CAN’T DO??” line.

The list can get pretty long, but the bottom line is that if you want to try restraining someone but don’t have rope or cuffs, this tape can do it for you. It’s perfect because if it gets wet or gets any fluids on it, it can be thrown away – now worrying about cleaning leather equipment.

Bondage tape is one of those starter, everyday items that everyone should have – from beginner to expert. It’s just that versatile. It’s all BDSM without the $$.

Please remember though, safety scissors are a must with this.

Have fun and keep it kinky!
